In the work “The Kiss,” I used a style of Patternism to create pictures of birds. This painting was made through a process in which I created abstract backgrounds, consisting of repeated straight lines, squares, and dots. I then used black and white paint to create an image. Animals have been the theme for the last several years, and with the abstract background as my starting point, I channel my own experiences to come up with an art that is autobiographical, and universal. In the work “The Kiss,” there is a struggle for EMBRACE as the birds fly through the air. Are they together or flying apart? Kissing or fighting? The viewer will have to EMBRACE their own emotional interpretations.
