Introduction to Oil Paints: 2-Day Workshop

Have you always been curious about oil paints but find them  intimidating? Do you still believe the myth that oil paints are toxic,  or they dry too slow, or they are expensive? Join instructor Mike Clark in this workshop that will introduce you to the ins and outs of oil paints. We will debunk all the  myths while learning everything you need to know to get started oil painting. We will also complete a couple of paintings in the process!

2-Day workshop (6hrs):

• Saturday, March 25, 1pm-4pm
• Sunday, March 26, 1pm-4pm

• Differences between oils and other paints 
• Oil painting myths debunked 
• Working safely with oils and solvents 
• Mixing colors 
• Cleaning and caring for your brushes 
• Alla Prima painting 
• Planning your compositions

Supplies you'll need to bring: 

• 3 or 4 brushes (Just make sure they are not specifically for  watercolors) - Example of inexpensive brush set: https://www.dickblick.com/products/princeton-real-value-series-9100-white-talkon-brush-sets/  
• Small 20ml tubes of oil paint (any brand of student grade oil paints  will work. Whatever fits your budget) at a minimum you will need the  following colors: Titanium white, Burnt Umber, Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Red, Cadmium Yellow -  Below is an example of an inexpensive oil paint set: https://www.dickblick.com/products/van-gogh-oil-colors/  
• 2 canvas panels 9x12 or 11x14 - Example of panels: https://www.dickblick.com/items/blick-canvas-panel-9-x-12/  
• Instructor will provide all other materials needed for class 

**Note: All dirty brushes, oil paint waste, rags, and solvents must be taken home to clean or dispose of; items may not be left at Inspired Minds Art Center.
